Bubbly Dose of Energy: Why Natural Light is Essential for Your Wellness

This past week has felt heavy, the one thing that has helped me with this weight is light. Have you ever noticed how stepping outside on a sunny day instantly lifts your mood? Every time I wake up and see that my windows have bright light coming through them, I know it will be a good day. Natural light is one of the most powerful, elements of wellness.

Sunlight: The Ultimate Mood Booster

Think of natural light as bubbles of happiness floating through your body. When sunlight hits your skin, it helps produce serotonin. This is why dark, cloudy days can sometimes leave us feeling sluggish or even moody. I feel this in my soul every gloomy day. On these days, I struggle to feel motivation to even get up. Simply spending 15–30 minutes outdoorsor allowing natural light into your space can help pop the mental fog and refresh your energy levels.

The Sleep Connection: Bubbles of Restorative Energy

Our bodies run on a natural circadian rhythm, which is heavily influenced by light. Exposure to natural light during the day helps regulate melatonin production. When I get enough daylight, I sleep better at night, waking up feeling refreshed.Let the morning sun wake you up, and dim the artificial glow before bed. When I am about to go to bed, I put away my phone to reduce artificial light, since it can cause me to sleep less and be reckless throughout the night.

Physical Health Benefits of Natural Light

Beyond boosting mood and sleep, natural light also:
Strengthens bones – Sunlight helps the body produce vitamin D, which is essential for calcium and bone health.
Enhances focus – Studies show that natural light improves concentration, making it easier to stay engaged and productive.I firmly believe when I let light into my space I can get work done with ease. I no longer have to force myself to do something, instead when I get more sun or light I feel like I can take on many more tasks
Supports eye health – Spending time in lit spaces reduces eye strain and promotes long term vision health. I have an eye condition that sometimes can bug me, allowing light into my life helps my eyes to be soothed from the stress.

Bringing More Light into Your Life

Not everyone can spend hours outside every day, or want to, but small adjustments can fill your space with light and energy bubbles:
- Open your curtains first thing in the morning to invite natural light inside.
- Take short walks outside during breaks, even if it’s just around the block. I like to do this by going to a market, the mail room, my print room, etc. Anything that gets me moving outside even for a few seconds
- Work near a window. I do this every time I do my school work. My office has a huge window that allows for natural light to come into the room
- Use light, airy colors in your home to reflect and amplify sunlight. I live in Michigan, so many days are gloomy and snowy. I added new light bulbs into my house to get the best airy light into each and every room
